Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Thursday hosted members of the National Economic Council (NEC) Committee on the revival of security training institutions, led by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State.
The delegation inspected the Police Training School in Nonwa, Tai Local Government Area, which has been closed for more than three years due to structural decay and poor infrastructure.
Governor Fubara commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his renewed focus on security sector reform, describing the initiative as a “bold step toward restoring discipline, professionalism, and capacity within Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies.”
“We are confident that under the President’s leadership, these critical institutions will be revived and modernized to meet global policing standards,” Fubara said.
Governor Mbah, who chairs the Committee, disclosed that the President had approved the recruitment of 30,000 new police personnel, adding that the team’s mandate includes supervising renovation, reconstruction, and re-equipping of all police training facilities across the country.
Also speaking, Governor Abiodun said the Committee had been given four weeks to submit a comprehensive report and cost estimate for the nationwide rehabilitation and modernization of training centers.
The visit to Rivers State marks a key step in the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance security readiness and personnel development as part of the broader national security reform agenda.
