Amnesty International Nigeria has decried one of the deadliest attacks in Benue State this year, which left scores dead and displaced thousands in Yelewata community.
According to the organisation, the June assault saw armed men invade the area, killing residents and setting homes and farmlands ablaze. The violence forced more than 3,941 people to flee for safety.
Amnesty International reported that during its visit to the devastated community, the stench of decomposing bodies still lingered in the air, a chilling reminder of the scale of destruction.
The rights group reiterated its call on Nigerian authorities to protect civilians, investigate the attack, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
