In a major intervention aimed at revitalizing education in Kebbi State, the Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development has donated school furniture valued at ₦1.3 billion to the state government. The donation, which underscores a growing partnership between traditional institutions and state authorities, was formally presented to Governor Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu) on Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Bulasa Warehouse, near Birnin Kebbi.
The presentation was made by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who was represented by the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu Mera. Speaking on behalf of the Sultan, Mera explained that the 3,785 pieces of furniture were part of a broader effort to support the governor’s ongoing reforms in the education sector.
According to him, the initiative was made possible through the contribution of Aminu Yaro, a Kebbi indigene based in Atlanta, USA, who worked alongside international partners to secure the items. The Emir commended Governor Idris for releasing ₦196 million to cover shipment and logistics, ensuring the items were successfully delivered to Nigeria.
He also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for granting a ₦280 million duty waiver, which allowed the furniture to be cleared duty-free — a move he said demonstrated federal support for grassroots development in education.
Responding, Governor Nasir Idris expressed deep gratitude to the Sultan Foundation, describing the gesture as “a major boost” to his administration’s commitment to rebuilding public schools and providing a conducive learning environment.
> “The Sultan Foundation is a highly reputable organization that reflects the esteemed stature of His Eminence both in Nigeria and beyond,” the governor said.
“We are deeply grateful for your continuous support and leadership,” he added.
Governor Idris recalled that the Foundation had previously donated medical supplies to the state, saying the new support for education further underscores its genuine commitment to community welfare. He assured that the donated furniture would be judiciously distributed and utilized across public schools.
The governor also appealed to the Foundation to extend future interventions to other critical areas, including hospital beds, beddings, and additional educational materials, to further enhance the quality of life in the state.
The Sultan Foundation’s gesture has been widely praised as a practical demonstration of leadership partnership between traditional institutions, citizens abroad, and government — all working together to uplift education in Kebbi State.
