A Kaduna-based businessman, Nasir Musa Idris, has filed a petition with the Nigerian Police Force, alleging that Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi is preventing his Moroccan wife, Khadija Daib, from returning to their home.
According to Idris, the situation began after he introduced his wife to Sheikh Gumi and his Moroccan spouse, Amal, during a chance encounter at a shopping mall. The introduction, intended to foster friendship between the two women due to their shared nationality, reportedly led to Khadija frequently visiting the cleric’s residence.
Idris claims that following a disagreement in September, his wife has refused to return home despite multiple attempts to resolve the matter. In an official petition dated October 27, 2025, Idris’ legal team, M.K. Associates, stated that the couple had legally married in Morocco on October 21, 2024, completing all necessary documentation at the Nigerian Embassy, with the union later solemnized in Nigeria.
He explained that his intention in introducing Khadija to Amal was simply to allow her to connect with a fellow Moroccan. However, Idris alleges that Amal influenced Khadija against him.
Speaking on the Hausa radio program Rigar Kaya on Lumana FM, Idris recounted that on September 16, Khadija demanded he divorce his first wife to continue their marriage. When he asked her to wait until he returned from work, she followed him to his office but refused to leave her car.
The businessman also stated that Sheikh Gumi intervened during the dispute, inviting the couple to his home but instructing Idris to leave Khadija behind. Since that time, Idris says his wife has declined to return to their matrimonial home, and all efforts to reunite have been unsuccessful.
