The governments of Katsina and Plateau States have announced the immediate closure of schools, citing rising security concerns and the need to safeguard students and staff.

In Katsina State, the government directed all public primary and secondary schools to shut down with immediate effect. Officials said the decision follows intelligence reports and ongoing assessments of threats affecting communities across the state.

Similarly, the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) ordered the closure of all public basic education schools. The board explained that the move is part of measures to strengthen security around learning environments amid increasing fears over attacks and abductions.

Authorities in both states noted that the shutdown is temporary and aimed at providing security agencies the space to evaluate risks and implement improved protection strategies for pupils, teachers and school infrastructure.

Parents and guardians have been advised to ensure the safety of their children while government officials continue to monitor the situation.

Further updates from both states are expected in the coming days.
