Former spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has called on President Bola Tinubu to reconsider his bid for re-election in 2027, arguing that the country’s pressing challenges remain unresolved.
Speaking on Channels Television’s ‘Sunday Politics’ programme, Baba-Ahmed acknowledged Tinubu’s brilliance but lamented that his administration has failed to demonstrate the necessary drive to address Nigeria’s critical issues.
He suggested that the president should step aside and allow a younger candidate from within his party to take the lead, emphasizing the importance of leadership that is energized and focused on delivering tangible solutions for Nigerians.
Baba-Ahmed, who resigned in April as special adviser on political affairs in the office of the Vice President, highlighted that the nation’s need for effective governance must take precedence over personal political ambitions.
Stone Reporters observed that Hakeem Baba-Ahmed’s comments highlight the growing debate over leadership effectiveness and generational change in Nigeria. While President Tinubu is recognized for his political acumen, the call for a younger, more energetic leadership reflects public concern over the nation’s persistent challenges and the need for renewed focus on governance that delivers tangible results.
His comments add to the ongoing national discourse about leadership continuity, generational change, and the capacity of current officeholders to meet Nigeria’s evolving political and socio-economic challenges.
