The campaign against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Ondo State gained renewed momentum as the First Lady, Mrs. Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, intensified advocacy efforts under the ongoing global 16 Days of Activism Against GBV, with a strong emphasis on tackling the emerging threat of digital violence against women and girls.

During a sensitization visit to the Deji’s Palace in Akure, the First Lady warned that many victims remain silent due to fear of stigma and cultural pressures. She described this silence as a major barrier to justice and rehabilitation, urging women and girls to speak up and seek help.

“Many are going through a lot but refuse to speak out because of stigmatisation. Our culture too is discouraging victims of gender-based violence to seek help. That is why we are sensitising our women and girls to always speak out to get justice,” she said.

Joining her voice, the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Bosede Adelami, said this year’s theme—“Unite To End Digital Violence Against Women and Girls”—is timely and “internet-related,” reflecting the rise of online abuse, harassment, and exploitation in the digital age.

In a strong response, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, condemned all forms of GBV and pledged royal backing for the state’s campaign, declaring, “We will do everything possible to stop it by force.”

The visit, coordinated by the Office of the First Lady through its Widows and Orphans (WOG) Initiative, aims to amplify voices against digital violence and strengthen community-level action to protect vulnerable women and girls.
