Relief washed over the Eruku community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State as 38 church worshippers earlier abducted by gunmen finally reunited with their families days after their rescue. The victims, who were seized on November 18, 2025, during a special thanksgiving service at Christ Apostolic Church Oke Isegun, Eruku, were formally handed over to local authorities on Tuesday night.
According to a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Ekiti LGA Chairman, Dada Sunday, the freed abductees were presented to the Ekiti Local Government Chairman, Awelewa Olawale Gabriel, in Ilorin by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The reunion marked an emotional end to a harrowing ordeal that sparked widespread anxiety across the community and renewed concerns about the safety of places of worship in the region. While details surrounding the rescue operation remain limited, local leaders expressed gratitude for the safe return of the victims and emphasized the need for strengthened security measures during religious gatherings.
