Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Tuesday paid a strategic visit to the training facility of the 2,600 newly recruited forest guards in Ilorin, where he assessed the intensity, professionalism, and effectiveness of their ongoing security training. The recruitment of these personnel marks one of the largest single-state security expansions in recent years, reflecting the administration’s deepening commitment to securing forests, farmlands, and rural communities against criminal activities.

During the visit, Governor AbdulRazaq interacted with the trainees and their instructors, emphasizing the importance of discipline, intelligence gathering, and community cooperation in modern security operations. He underscored the state’s mission to build a proactive and well-equipped security presence capable of responding swiftly to threats ranging from illegal encroachment and poaching to kidnapping, banditry, and cross-border criminal infiltration.

The forest guard initiative forms a critical part of the Kwara State government’s broader rural-safety strategy, which includes enhanced surveillance, inter-agency collaboration, and the integration of local knowledge into intelligence-driven responses. The governor’s on-site inspection also served as a morale boost to recruits, reaffirming the administration’s support for security personnel and its intention to fully integrate them into the state’s operational network once training is complete.

With this expanded force, Kwara State aims to further improve public safety, safeguard its natural reserves, and strengthen citizens’ confidence in the government’s capacity to secure lives and livelihoods across the state.
