In a significant move aimed at improving transportation and easing traffic flow, the Federal Government has directed the reopening of the Keffi Bridge for vehicular movement. The announcement was made by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during an inspection tour of ongoing infrastructure projects along the critical Mararaba–Keffi–Abuja corridor.
The Keffi Bridge, which has been under intensive reconstruction for the past four months, is now 99% complete. Minister Umahi expressed optimism that reopening the bridge will significantly ease traffic congestion, especially during the festive period when movement along the route intensifies due to increased travel and commercial activities. “The bridge has reached an advanced stage of completion, and opening it now will ensure smooth vehicular movement, reducing travel time and improving convenience for commuters,” he said.
The reconstruction of the Keffi Bridge is part of the Federal Government’s broader infrastructure development agenda, which seeks to upgrade critical road networks across the nation to meet modern standards of safety and efficiency. The project involves extensive repairs and reinforcement work to ensure durability, resilience, and improved traffic management along one of the busiest transport corridors connecting Abuja with neighboring towns and states.
Local commuters and transport operators have welcomed the announcement, describing the reopening as a timely relief. Many had endured prolonged traffic delays and diversions caused by the bridge’s closure, which had disrupted commercial activities and daily commuting patterns. With the bridge set to resume full operations, traders, motorists, and transport companies anticipate smoother movement and a boost in economic activities along the route.
Minister Umahi further noted that the Federal Government remains committed to completing all ongoing road and bridge projects on schedule, emphasizing that strategic infrastructure investments are crucial for enhancing national productivity, facilitating trade, and improving the quality of life for Nigerians.
The reopening of the Keffi Bridge is expected to not only ease festive traffic congestion but also strengthen the Mararaba–Keffi–Abuja corridor as a major transportation and economic artery, supporting commerce, tourism, and inter-state connectivity.
