Nasarawa State – A deadly attack on a police patrol team in Doma Local Government Area has left a police inspector and two civilians dead, raising fresh concerns over security in parts of central Nigeria. The incident occurred on December 14, 2025, at around 6:30 p.m., along Ajimaka Village road en route to Rukubi town.
The patrol team, which was operating under Operation Restore Peace, included local vigilante members tasked with supporting law enforcement in the area. Eyewitnesses reported that a group of unidentified gunmen ambushed the officers during a routine patrol, opening fire with automatic weapons.
Among the victims was Inspector Jampi Mbursa, a frontline officer involved in regional anti-crime operations. Two civilians, Julius Igbogh and Raphaeal Julius, both residents of Ajimaka Village, were also fatally shot during the attack.
Sources revealed that the assailants seized Inspector Mbursa’s AK-47 rifle, loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, before fleeing the scene. The victims were rushed to Rukubi General Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths. Their remains have since been deposited at the hospital mortuary.
Security authorities have launched an investigation into the ambush. Efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen firearm and apprehend those responsible for the attack, as the state police command intensifies patrols in vulnerable communities.
Residents of Doma and surrounding areas have expressed shock and fear, calling on the government to strengthen protection for both security personnel and civilians. Analysts say the attack underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in central Nigeria, where banditry and armed ambushes remain persistent threats.
“The assailants shot Inspector Jampi Mbursa, as well as two other persons identified as Julius Igbogh and Raphaeal Julius, all from Ajimaka Village,” sources said, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of the attack.
This latest incident comes amid growing concerns over the safety of police officers and local vigilantes, who often operate in high-risk areas with limited resources. Community leaders are urging authorities to implement proactive measures, including intelligence-led operations and stronger coordination with local residents, to prevent further loss of life.
The Nasarawa State Police Command has pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice, emphasizing that law enforcement agencies remain committed to safeguarding the lives of citizens and maintaining peace across the state.
