Operation HADIN KAI Troops Disrupt Terrorist Supply Network, Neutralise Insurgents in Coordinated Borno Ambush
Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria — Nigerian troops serving under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have scored significant victories against insurgent networks in Borno State, disrupting terrorist supply movements, neutralising insurgents and dismantling key logistics chains in a series of intelligence-led operations. The multi-faceted campaign reflects heightened military activity aimed at denying terror groups freedom of movement and weakening their operational capabilities in Nigeria’s volatile North-East region.
According to official military statements, the operations were executed between December 17 and December 21, 2025, under the ongoing Operations Desert Sanity IV and V, which form part of a broader counter-terrorism escalation by the Nigerian Army and allied security partners.
In one of the most decisive actions, troops acting on credible human intelligence ambushed a terrorist logistics movement between Sojiri and Kayamla villages late on the night of December 20. Joined by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters, soldiers occupied a concealed position at the interception point. At about 2:24 a.m. on December 21, 2025, suspected insurgents travelling with supplies were engaged in a coordinated strike that resulted in 17 suspected terrorist elements being neutralised, with others reportedly escaping with gunshot wounds. Recovered at the scene were logistical materials including bicycles, food supplies, clothing, tyres, torchlights, various weapons and ammunition — items believed to support insurgent sustainment efforts.
In a separate but related operation, troops of the 25 Brigade discovered and safely neutralised an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along the Damboa–Komala Road on December 17, 2025. The device was detected during routine patrol of a Main Supply Route (MSR) and was successfully detonated by military engineers, averting risk to both civilian commuters and military personnel.
Further reinforcing Operation Hadin Kai’s disruption of terror supply chains, another action on December 19, 2025, saw troops intercept a Lagos-registered vehicle (plate number AKD 244 YE) at a checkpoint along the Maiduguri–Bama Road. The vehicle was found to be carrying large quantities of foodstuffs and energy drinks suspected to be logistics supplies destined for Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Kirawa Ward, Gwoza Local Government Area. Two suspects were taken into custody in connection with the interception, and recovered items — including mobile phones, an identity card and cash in both naira and CFA francs — have since been handed over to military intelligence for further action.
In addition to physical ambushes and logistical interceptions, separate reports indicate that Nigerian troops have also intercepted two pick-up vans suspected of carrying supplies for ISWAP, with recovered materials including tyres, spare vehicle parts, clothing, food items and cash. The drivers are in military custody as investigations continue.
The series of operations illustrates a multi-pronged military strategy aimed at degrading terror group capabilities not only through direct kinetic engagements but also by denying them crucial supplies and logistical support. By acting on credible intelligence and leveraging partnerships with local security structures, the Nigerian military has demonstrated an increasing capacity to strike at the infrastructure that sustains extremist activity.
Military authorities have lauded the troops for their professionalism and determination, urging them to maintain the operational tempo as part of a sustained push to rebuff insurgent threats across the North-East. The high command also reiterated the importance of continued cooperation with civilian allies, intelligence networks and community informants, emphasising that collective vigilance remains critical to achieving lasting peace and stability.
The evolving operations form part of a broader campaign by the Nigerian Armed Forces, which have over the past months recorded multiple successes in neutralising insurgents, intercepting weapon and logistics convoys, and arresting terrorist collaborators as part of nationwide counter-terrorism efforts. Authorities say that by continuously targeting supply lines and combat capabilities, the military seeks to erode the insurgents’ operational reach and protect vulnerable communities throughout the region.
