The Zamfara State Police Command has recorded a significant operational success with the interception of a large consignment of suspected hazardous and toxic chemicals capable of endangering lives and property across the state.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the seizure was made by operatives of the Anti-Illegal Mining Unit during a routine patrol in the Lalan area of Gusau Local Government Area. According to the police, officers intercepted and confiscated about 2,500 litres of the suspected chemicals, which were believed to pose serious risks to public health and the environment.

The chemicals were discovered stored in one hundred jerrycans, each containing 25 litres. Police authorities noted that the volume and manner of storage raised concerns about possible illegal activities, including environmental pollution and threats to community safety.

DSP Abubakar stated that investigations have commenced to determine the source, ownership, and intended use of the seized chemicals. He added that the outcome of the investigation would guide further action, including the identification and prosecution of all individuals found to be involved, in line with existing laws.

The statement further quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, as urging residents of Zamfara State to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station. The Commissioner emphasized that the protection of lives and property remains a core priority of the Command.

The Police Command also reassured the public of its readiness to act swiftly on credible information, stressing that cooperation between security agencies and citizens is essential to maintaining peace and safety in the state.
