The Nigerian Military has achieved a major milestone in its fight against insurgency, announcing the death of Jullabir, a high-ranking Boko Haram and ISWAP commander, along with several other insurgents during recent intelligence-led operations in the Northeast. This announcement came through a statement by Lt Col Uba Sani, spokesman for Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), highlighting significant operational gains made by troops of the Joint Task Force in Borno, Adamawa, and surrounding areas.

According to the statement, intelligence confirmed that Jullabir, active in the Gujba area of the Timbuktu Triangle, was killed during an encounter near Kimba in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State on January 30, 2026. The elimination of the insurgent leader reportedly caused chaos among ISWAP fighters in the region, disrupting the group’s command and control structures and neutralizing several other members during the operation.

Lt Col Uba Sani detailed additional successes in coordinated operations. In one notable action, OPHK troops, working with the Civilian Joint Task Force, set up a tactical ambush between Ngazalgana and Lamusheri communities in Borno State based on verified intelligence on insurgent movements. The engagement resulted in the neutralization of three insurgents, while others sustained gunshot wounds and fled. Two AK-47 rifles were recovered at the scene, reflecting the ongoing focus on restricting insurgent mobility and operational capability.

Earlier, on January 29, 2026, OPHK troops positioned at Tsokorok in Gwoza Local Government Area encountered Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists. The troops engaged the insurgents, compelling them to retreat. One terrorist was neutralized in the encounter, and two motorcycles were recovered, with no casualties reported among military personnel.

Operational successes extended beyond Borno State. In Adamawa State, troops responded swiftly to a distress call from the Barama community in Mubi North LGA, foiling an armed robbery attempt against a student from the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi. Two armed suspects were apprehended, with one sustaining a gunshot wound to the thigh. Recovered items included cutlasses, laptops, mobile phones, and a power bank. The suspects were handed over to the Nigerian Police for further investigation.

On January 28, 2026, troops, in collaboration with local vigilantes, conducted a fighting patrol along the Amtasa–Washim axis in Hong Local Government Area. During this operation, terrorists were forced to retreat under heavy fire. The patrol successfully rescued an abducted woman and recovered weapons, including one AK-47 rifle with two rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one SMG rifle, and 42 rounds of assorted ammunition.

The Nigerian Military emphasized that the ongoing operations under Operation Hadin Kai have produced tangible results, effectively neutralizing key terrorist figures, disrupting criminal networks, and securing strategic areas across the Northeast. The military reassured the public that it remains committed to protecting lives and property, dismantling terrorist networks, and collaborating with local communities and stakeholders to restore peace and economic stability in affected regions.

This development marks a significant blow to Boko Haram and ISWAP operational structures, further consolidating military efforts to reclaim territories and ensure security for civilians in Nigeria’s volatile northeastern corridor.
