KATSINA — Heightened tension has gripped communities in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State following reports that a group of armed bandits was sighted gathering on the northern outskirts of Dayi town.

Local sources said that at least 25 motorcycles carrying suspected armed men were observed in the area, with two of the motorcycles reportedly departing toward an unknown direction shortly after being seen. The purpose of the gathering and the intended target, if any, remain unclear as of the time of reporting.

Residents in Ɗanjanku, Dayi, and surrounding communities near the Katsina–Kano border have been urged to remain vigilant and limit unnecessary movement, particularly along rural routes and forest corridors. Community leaders are advising locals to promptly report suspicious activity to security operatives and avoid isolated areas until the situation becomes clearer.

The northern axis of Malumfashi, like several border communities in Katsina State, has experienced periodic bandit activity in recent years, often involving motorcycle-mounted groups exploiting forest pathways and porous rural routes. Such movements typically precede raids on villages, abductions, cattle rustling or attacks on highways, though authorities have not confirmed any imminent threat linked to the current sighting.

As of this report, there has been no official statement from the Katsina State Police Command regarding the development. Security agencies are believed to be monitoring the area, but residents continue to express concern over the visible movement of armed groups so close to populated settlements.

Community stakeholders are calling for proactive patrols and coordinated security surveillance across the Katsina–Kano border corridor to deter potential attacks and reassure affected populations.
