Residents of Bomjok community in Kurmin Gwaza, Kwaturu Ward of Kachia Local Government Area, Kaduna State, have raised urgent alarms following a late-night attack by suspected bandits that left 16 people abducted, including women, children, and a nursing mother. The attack occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2025, with witnesses reporting that the assailants operated in the community for more than two hours before departing with their victims.

Eyewitnesses describe the attack as highly coordinated, with assailants moving through the community with apparent ease, targeting homes and vulnerable residents. Among those abducted are three 13-year-olds, a 10-year-old, and a four-month-old baby, alongside adult men and women. Families and neighbors have expressed profound shock and fear, highlighting the psychological trauma inflicted on the community by the violent incursion.

Local sources indicate that the bandits may be demanding ransom for the victims’ release. However, several families reportedly lack the financial capacity to meet such demands, intensifying the community’s distress and uncertainty about the fate of their loved ones. The identities of the abducted include Patience Obadiah, Blessing Daniel, Justice Yakubu, Abel Edward, Tabitha Adamu, John Adua, Dominic Markus, and Stephen Daniel, among others, with residents appealing for urgent intervention.

As of the time of filing this report, no official confirmation has been issued regarding the victims’ whereabouts, and no coordinated rescue effort has been publicly disclosed. Community members are calling on security agencies and relevant authorities to act immediately to ensure the safe return of the abducted individuals.

The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in rural parts of Kaduna State, where isolated communities are often vulnerable to nocturnal attacks by armed groups. Residents stress the need for sustained security patrols, intelligence-driven interventions, and proactive measures to prevent further kidnappings and protect lives in remote wards like Kwaturu.

Community leaders have urged the government to intensify monitoring of vulnerable villages and to establish more permanent security presence to deter banditry. Analysts note that the recurrent targeting of rural communities for abductions not only threatens civilian safety but also disrupts local economic and social activities, leaving communities in a constant state of fear.

Families and community representatives are appealing to both state and federal authorities to urgently mobilize search and rescue operations while also considering strategies to address the underlying insecurity that allows such attacks to occur with impunity. The ongoing uncertainty has left Bomjok residents on edge, emphasizing the urgent need for protective measures and prompt intervention to safeguard lives.
