The Kaduna State Government has formally reunited 204 kidnap survivors with their families following a coordinated handover ceremony held on Wednesday at the State Shelter Home along Katuru Road in Kaduna.

The survivors were handed over to their respective local government chairmen for reintegration into their communities after completing a period of medical treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation. State officials described the development as part of a broader effort to support victims of abduction and restore stability in communities affected by insecurity.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, who represented Governor Uba Sani, characterized the reunification as a significant milestone in the administration’s ongoing response to kidnapping and banditry. She stated that the survivors had undergone comprehensive medical assessments and received psychosocial care designed to address trauma and facilitate their reintegration into society.

According to Dr. Balarabe, the majority of the rescued individuals were from Tudun Wali in Kajuru Local Government Area, while others came from Chikun, Igabi and Kachia LGAs. She noted that the state government prioritized both physical recovery and emotional rehabilitation before approving their return to their respective communities.

The Deputy Governor expressed satisfaction at witnessing the survivors’ return and assured them of continued support as they rebuild their lives. She emphasized that the government remains committed to strengthening security measures and providing sustained assistance to victims of criminal violence across the state.

Several senior government officials were present at the ceremony, including the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Sani Liman Kila; the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Rabi Salisu; and the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Suleh Shuaibu (SAN). Local government chairmen who attended included Dauda Madaki of Kajuru, Sani Abdullahi Zangon Aya of Igabi, Salasi Musa of Chikun, and the Vice Chairman of Kachia, who received the survivors on behalf of their respective councils.

The state government reiterated its resolve to collaborate with security agencies to curb kidnapping and ensure that affected communities receive both protection and structured reintegration support. Authorities indicated that post-reintegration monitoring and community-based support mechanisms would remain in place to assist the survivors in their transition back to normal life.

Kaduna State has faced recurring incidents of abduction in recent years, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas. Officials maintain that beyond rescue operations, sustained rehabilitation and reintegration efforts are essential to addressing the long-term impact of such crimes on individuals and communities.
