Two men have been sentenced to prison in Ireland for their involvement in a violent street attack in Dublin that led to the death of 34-year-old Nigerian man Quham Babatunde. The incident occurred on February 15, 2025, following a Valentine’s night event at a city centre nightclub.
Bruno Tache, 21, and Rory Carr, 22, pleaded guilty to charges of affray and assault after violent disorder erupted outside the venue. The court heard that Tache had been drinking heavily and was ejected from the club around 2 a.m. Later, both he and Carr became involved in multiple street fights. During this chaos, Babatunde was stabbed by another individual. While Tache and Carr did not commit the stabbing, they attacked Babatunde after he was already injured, with Carr punching him and Tache kicking him. Other people were also assaulted during the disorder.
At their sentencing, Judge Orla Crowe described the events as involving a significant amount of violence and lawlessness. Both men had prior criminal records and were on bail at the time. They were each sentenced to three years and six months in prison, with the final six months suspended.
The case prompted discussions about knife crime, public safety, and disorderly conduct in Dublin, highlighting how quickly street altercations can escalate into fatal incidents. Gardaí continued investigations into other suspects directly linked to the stabbing, with arrests and legal proceedings ongoing to ensure accountability.
