The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has launched a statewide enforcement exercise of its QR code jacket policy, resulting in the seizure of at least 60 commercial motorcycles across major parts of Ibadan. The operation, which commenced on Tuesday, targeted key areas including Mokola, Gate Bus Stop, Idi-Ape, Iwo Road, and other strategic locations, as authorities seek to improve regulation, enhance security, and promote accountability among commercial motorcycle operators.

During the exercise, OYRTMA Chairman Major Adekoya Adesagba (Rtd) expressed serious concern over the continued refusal of some riders to comply with government directives. He emphasized that the enforcement is designed not to punish operators but to safeguard lives and maintain road order.

“It is unfortunate that despite repeated warnings and sensitization, some motorcycle operators still choose to disregard government directives. This is not just about compliance; it is about the safety of lives and property. Any rider who refuses to obey the law is putting passengers and other road users at risk,” Adesagba stated. He further warned that the agency would sustain the enforcement until full compliance is achieved.

The Oyo State Government affirmed its commitment to creating a safer and more organized transport system, pledging continued support for policies that protect residents while urging operators to cooperate fully. “There will be no hiding place for violators,” Adesagba added.

General Manager of OYRTMA, Commander Adeoye Adekola, cautioned against the use of fake QR code jackets, urging operators who registered through unauthorized sources to regularize their registration at approved government centers. “We have observed that some motorcycle riders are using fake QR code jackets. This is illegal. We urge such operators to regularize their status immediately. Anyone found with counterfeit registration will be prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he stated.

The enforcement exercise is expected to continue across other zones within the state, with officials appealing to the public to support the initiative as part of broader efforts to enhance safety and orderliness on Oyo roads.
