The Delta State Police Command has stepped up efforts to curb traffic violations across major roads in the state, resulting in the prosecution of sixty‑eight offenders following targeted enforcement operations in Warri, Asaba, and Okwe. These measures are part of a broader strategy by the Delta State Government to ensure compliance with traffic laws and enhance the safety and security of residents.

The operations were conducted in collaboration with seven designated judges and magistrates presiding over mobile courts. Offenders were arraigned and prosecuted at mobile courts in Warri and Asaba, as well as the Magistrate Court in Okwe, for a variety of traffic infractions. Seven individuals were charged with unauthorized use of number plates, five for driving against traffic, and fifteen for operating vehicles without registration numbers. Two were prosecuted for illegitimate use of sirens and revolving lights, fifteen for obstructing roads, thirteen for driving with covered number plates, and eleven for driving without valid driver’s licenses.

Authorities noted that vehicles with unregistered or obscured number plates are often used to evade security checks and facilitate other unlawful activities. By prosecuting such offences, the police aim to enhance road safety while also addressing potential security risks associated with noncompliant vehicles.

All offenders were fined in accordance with the Delta State Traffic Management Law and the National Road Traffic Regulations, reinforcing the legal consequences of violating traffic rules. The fines were issued through the judicial process overseen by the mobile court judges and magistrates, ensuring prompt and transparent adjudication.

The Delta State Police Command emphasized that the crackdown is part of an integrated approach involving close collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Delta State Traffic Management Agency. These partnerships enable coordinated enforcement, sharing of information, and efficient deployment of resources to manage traffic and reduce accidents on major roads throughout the state.

Motorists and road users have been urged to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, ensure their vehicles are properly registered, and carry valid driver’s licenses at all times. The command stressed that responsible driving not only prevents legal penalties but also contributes to overall road safety for all residents.

The initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to maintaining orderly vehicular movement and ensuring public safety on Delta State roads. The police reaffirmed their zero‑tolerance stance toward traffic violations and signaled that similar enforcement efforts will continue across the state to safeguard lives and maintain law and order.
