The Embassy of Germany in Abuja has announced the opening of applications for a full-time administrative officer position within its political department, in a move aimed at strengthening its diplomatic and analytical operations in Nigeria.

According to the official job notice published on the embassy’s platform, the position is for a case worker who will support the political unit on a 40-hour weekly schedule. The role is expected to commence as soon as possible, with initial employment set on a one-year contract, subject to renewal and the possibility of permanent appointment based on performance.

The embassy stated that the successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and analysing media reports across print, online, and social media platforms, with the aim of supporting the mission’s political reporting and situational awareness. The role also involves maintaining contact networks with political stakeholders and assisting in the coordination of diplomatic engagements and embassy-led projects.

In addition, the job description includes responsibilities such as organizing political events, conferences, and briefings, as well as conducting research on political, economic, and social developments relevant to Germany’s diplomatic interests in Nigeria and the wider West African region.

Applicants are expected to hold at least a bachelor’s degree in disciplines such as law, political science, economics, international relations, or other related fields. The embassy emphasized that strong academic qualifications and analytical ability will be key considerations in the selection process.

Language proficiency is also a major requirement for the role. Candidates must demonstrate at least C1-level proficiency in English and B2-level proficiency in German, reflecting the bilingual nature of the position and the need for effective communication within the diplomatic environment.

The embassy requested that interested applicants submit a cover letter and curriculum vitae written in German, along with academic certificates and, where available, letters of recommendation. Applications are to be sent via the designated recruitment email address provided by the mission.

The deadline for submission is April 30, 2026. According to the notice, shortlisted candidates will be invited for a selection process scheduled to take place in Abuja between May and June 2026. The embassy noted that only successful applicants would be contacted after the recruitment exercise.

It also clarified that it would not acknowledge receipt of applications and would not cover travel expenses for candidates attending interviews, a standard practice in many diplomatic and international recruitment processes.

The embassy further encouraged qualified women to apply, in line with broader international efforts to promote gender balance and inclusivity in diplomatic and administrative roles.

The announcement reflects ongoing administrative and diplomatic engagement by Germany in Nigeria, a country that remains one of its key partners in West Africa across political, economic, and development cooperation areas. The embassy’s political department plays a central role in monitoring domestic developments, engaging with stakeholders, and providing analysis that informs bilateral relations.

As interest in international careers continues to grow among Nigerian professionals, the vacancy is expected to attract a competitive pool of applicants, particularly from individuals with backgrounds in governance, policy analysis, international relations, and media monitoring.

The recruitment exercise underscores the increasing demand for skilled professionals capable of operating in multilingual and politically sensitive environments, where diplomacy, research, and communication intersect.
