The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected members of a cross-border motorcycle theft syndicate following a coordinated intelligence-led operation in Ibadan. The suspects, Ibrahim Adebisi, aged 24, and Hussein Haruna, aged 23, were apprehended after police traced stolen motorcycles from Osun State to a receiving point in the Ojoo area of Ibadan. The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, ordered the operation after receiving credible intelligence about the activities of Adebisi, who specialised in stealing parked motorcycles.
According to a statement released by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, on Thursday, April 23, 2026, the police team arrested Adebisi at his residence without incident.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and disclosed that he operated by stealing motorcycles from Ilesa in Osun State and transporting them to Ibadan for sale. Acting on this confession, operatives proceeded to the Ojoo axis of Ibadan, where Haruna was arrested. Haruna admitted to being a receiver of stolen motorcycles, which he bought from Adebisi and resold to unsuspecting buyers.
Further investigation led to the recovery of three unregistered motorcycles: two Boxer motorcycles and one TVS Neo NX ladies’ motorcycle.
The police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and to recover additional stolen motorcycles already distributed by the suspects. The command did not disclose how long the syndicate had been operating or the total number of motorcycles stolen.
CP Olugbenga commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olutunji Rilwan Disu, for his continued support and strategic leadership in strengthening operational effectiveness across commands. He reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged members of the public to continue to support the police with timely and credible information. Residents can report emergencies via the Oyo State Call Response Center toll-free line 615 or the command’s control room numbers.
The arrest highlights a growing trend of cross-border motorcycle theft in the South-West region, where stolen bikes are often moved between states to evade detection. The police have advised motorcycle owners to park their vehicles in secure locations and to report any suspicious activity. The suspects are expected to be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
