The Edo State Police Command has distanced itself from political remarks made by comedian Emmanuel Eghogho, popularly known as Egogo, in a viral video showing the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, on official duty.
In the video, Eghogho was heard making remarks about the African Democratic Congress and Peter Obi while addressing the seated Commissioner of Police. The clip generated public concern because the comments were made in the presence of the police commissioner.
In a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the police said the comments were entirely those of Eghogho and did not represent the views, position, or disposition of CP Agbonika or the Edo State Police Command. The command stressed that the commissioner did not endorse, adopt, or align himself with the remarks.
The police described CP Agbonika as a professional and non-partisan officer committed to the constitutional mandate of the Nigeria Police Force. The command also repeated its earlier warning to political parties, supporters, and members of the public to conduct political activities peacefully and lawfully.
The Edo Police Command warned that violence, incitement, thuggery, or any conduct capable of disturbing public peace would not be tolerated. It said anyone found engaging in actions likely to undermine public order would be dealt with according to the law.
The statement comes amid heightened political sensitivity around party activity and public comments linked to opposition groups and political figures. The command said it remains committed to public safety and the protection of democratic processes across Edo State.
