The Anambra State Police Command has successfully dismantled a notorious criminal hideout in the Eze-Allah area of Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area, arresting eight suspected cultists and recovering significant quantities of hard drugs and other illicit substances. The operation, conducted by operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Unit, Enugwu-Ukwu, on the evening of April 16, 2026, was based on credible intelligence that the location had become a hub for cult-related activities and drug abuse.

According to a statement released on Saturday, April 25, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the raid targeted a known black spot long suspected of being a base for criminal operations. The arrested suspects, all males, have been identified as 27-year-old Chidalu Nwafor, 24-year-old Chiemerie Nwazueje, 25-year-old Chima Arwuike, 26-year-old Jideobi Emeka, 18-year-old Oliver Okonkwo, 18-year-old Izuchukwu Christian, 21-year-old Onyebuchi, and 44-year-old Walter Idouzour.

During the raid, police operatives recovered various quantities of substances believed to be Cannabis Sativa and other dangerous drugs. The command noted that the proliferation of illicit drugs remains a significant driver of crime, particularly among youth groups involved in cult-related violence. “The prevalence of illicit drugs continues to enable criminality, especially among youth groups engaged in cult activities,” Ikenga stated, adding that the raid underscores the urgent need for sustained enforcement and community cooperation. The exercise forms part of the command’s intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks and rid the state of black spots used as operational bases by unlawful groups.

Reacting to the success of the operation, SP Ikenga reiterated that the link between drug abuse and organised criminal behaviour, particularly among youth groups involved in cultism, necessitates sustained enforcement actions and community collaboration. “Drug abuse is a major enabler of crime and criminality, and this operation demonstrates our commitment to tackling the menace head-on,” he said. The suspects are currently undergoing profiling and further investigation, after which they will be charged to court accordingly.

The Anambra State Police Command has reassured residents of its unwavering commitment to ongoing security operations aimed at dislodging criminal elements and maintaining peace and order across the state. “The command will not relent in its efforts to ensure the safety and security of all residents,” Ikenga affirmed. The Command also urged community members to continue providing timely and credible information to assist in identifying and flushing out criminal elements from their neighborhoods. As the investigation progresses, the police have vowed to sustain pressure on known hotspots and bring all perpetrators of cultism and drug-related crimes to justice.
