The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested and paraded 26 suspected criminals in a major crackdown spanning multiple states, recovering a stolen white Toyota Hiace bus valued at approximately N145 million along with several locally made firearms, dangerous weapons, and other incriminating items. The Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Daniel Edebor, disclosed the breakthrough while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Yenagoa on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, reaffirming the command’s zero‑tolerance stance on crime as directed by the Inspector‑General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

The most significant recovery came from a painstaking investigation into the theft of a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number SAG 584 EA. According to Edebor, the principal suspect, Anyankpele Ebiowei, was arrested in Warri, Delta State, and his confession led to the arrest of two accomplices, Alhaji Jibo Aluseyni, 60, and Hassan Mumuni, 48, who had purchased the bus without proper documentation. Further investigation revealed the vehicle had been resold through a middleman, Sefiu Abbas, 38, to a Lagos‑based auto dealer, Alhaji Sikiru Jimoh, for N38 million. Jimoh remains at large. The vehicle was eventually recovered in Lagos by operatives of Operation Puff Adder, the police tactical team that orchestrated the cross‑state pursuit. All arrested suspects have confessed and will be charged to court.

In a separate operation, three suspects – Lucky Boro, 24; Tony Akpose, 24; and Tari Lokosi, 26 – were arrested on January 14, 2026, during a routine stop‑and‑search at Ebis Road Junction, Biogbolo, Yenagoa. A locally made single‑barrel pistol was recovered from Boro, and the trio, all residents of Down Yenagoa, were reportedly en route to Tombia Roundabout, Edepie, with the intent to rob unsuspecting passengers. They have since confessed and are awaiting prosecution.

Other arrests included Emmanuel Agadaga Akene, apprehended in Yenagoa following credible intelligence. A locally made single‑barrel pistol concealed in a black polythene bag was recovered from him. George John was arrested following an assault complaint by a final‑year student of Niger Delta University; a search of his residence uncovered a locally fabricated pistol, a battle axe, a machete, and other dangerous weapons. Four suspects travelling in a Dangote Cement truck along the East‑West Road were also intercepted; two locally made double‑barrelled guns and 18 rounds of live cartridges were recovered from them.

The command also confirmed the arrest in Bayelsa of a suspected serial killer wanted by the Ebonyi State Police Command for multiple murders. The suspect, who was not named in the official brief, is said to have led a gang responsible for the killing of a Chief Security Officer, a serving councillor, and a traditional ruler, among others. The suspect is currently in custody and will be transferred to Ebonyi for prosecution.

Commissioner Edebor urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible and timely information, assuring that Bayelsa remains unsafe for criminals and that the command will sustain its offensive against all forms of criminality, including cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, and advance fee fraud. The parade of the 26 suspects and the recovery of the N145 million bus mark one of the command’s most significant operational successes under the IGP’s zero‑tolerance directive.
