Anglican Communion Suspends Cleric Over Allegations of Fake Miracles and Staged Prophecies

The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has suspended Reverend Ifunaya Maduka, the Vicar of St Paul’s Parish, Nteje, in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, over allegations bordering on fake miracles and staged prophecies.

The suspension was announced following internal church proceedings in response to concerns raised about the conduct of the cleric during his ministerial activities. Church authorities stated that the decision was taken in line with established disciplinary procedures within the Anglican Communion.

According to the Church of Nigeria’s hierarchy, the allegations against Reverend Maduka include claims that certain miraculous occurrences and prophetic declarations associated with his ministry were not genuine. The leadership described the matter as serious enough to warrant immediate suspension pending further investigation.

The suspension effectively removes Reverend Maduka from his pastoral duties at St Paul’s Parish, Nteje, while the church conducts a detailed review of the allegations. The Anglican Communion has not publicly disclosed the full findings of its internal inquiry but confirmed that due process is being followed in accordance with ecclesiastical regulations.

Church officials emphasised that the Anglican Communion maintains strict standards for ministerial conduct and doctrine, and that any deviation from these standards is subject to disciplinary action. They noted that the integrity of worship and ministry remains a priority for the church.

The Diocese overseeing the parish has been tasked with managing the interim leadership of the congregation to ensure continuity of spiritual and administrative activities during the suspension period.

Reverend Maduka has not publicly issued a detailed response to the allegations at the time of reporting, and the church has not indicated whether further sanctions may follow depending on the outcome of the ongoing review.

The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), one of the largest Christian denominations in the country, has a structured disciplinary framework that allows for investigation, suspension, and possible reinstatement or removal of clergy depending on the outcome of internal inquiries.

Fake miracle allegations have in recent years become a sensitive issue within some Christian denominations in Nigeria, prompting several churches to reinforce oversight mechanisms and doctrinal accountability among clergy members.

The suspension of Reverend Maduka is expected to remain in place until the conclusion of the investigation and further directives from the appropriate ecclesiastical authorities.
