The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper, Adegbenro Adeola, following a dramatic high‑speed chase along the Oba‑Ile axis of Akure, during which the abducted victim, Kayode Alaba, was pushed out of the moving vehicle by the fleeing suspects. The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the arrest marked another significant breakthrough in the command’s ongoing fight against kidnapping and violent crime in the state.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, when police operatives on routine patrol along the Oba‑Ile axis received credible intelligence about a man shouting for help from inside a moving red Toyota Camry. Acting swiftly on the report, the officers spotted the vehicle and immediately initiated a coordinated pursuit. As the chase intensified, the suspects forcefully ejected the victim from the moving car in a desperate attempt to evade arrest. Undeterred, the police team sustained the pursuit and succeeded in arresting one of the suspects, identified as Adegbenro Adeola, while other members of the gang fled the scene. The operational vehicle was also recovered. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, Kayode Alaba, had earlier been abducted from his residence along Irese Road in Akure before the timely intervention of the police. The rescued victim is currently receiving medical attention, while the arrested suspect has provided useful information to assist ongoing investigations.

The case has been transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit in Akure for further investigation and intensified efforts to apprehend the remaining members of the syndicate. The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the gallantry, swift response and professionalism of the operatives involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Ondo State. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely, credible and actionable information to the police, stressing that collective efforts remain vital in the fight against crime.

The arrest of Adegbenro Adeola follows a series of successful anti‑kidnapping operations by the Ondo State Police Command. In early May 2026, the command also apprehended two suspected kidnap kingpins, Bello Denge (30) and Umar Isah (25), who were positively identified by no fewer than nine victims and subsequently charged with kidnapping and other violent crimes. Those suspects were formally arraigned and remanded in prison pending further trial. The latest arrest, coming just days after those prosecutions, underscores the command’s persistent strategy of intelligence‑led, rapid‑response policing, which has yielded significant results in the state capital and its environs. For residents of Akure, many of whom have grown increasingly anxious over the rise in abductions, the sight of a suspected kidnapper being hauled away in handcuffs offers a rare moment of relief. But for fleeing accomplices still at large, the message from the police is clear: no matter how fast they drive, the chase will not end until they are caught.
