The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Command, has made a significant arrest, detaining 210 suspects for crimes including vandalism, fraud, and illegal mining over the last 18 months. The command’s State Commandant, Remilekun Ekundayo, presented this record during a working visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ogun Council in Abeokuta on Wednesday, according to multiple news reports. Ekundayo outlined the command's progress, stating that it was part of a sustained crackdown on economic sabotage and the protection of critical national assets.
The operations conducted under Ekundayo’s leadership have recovered ₦23 million in fraud-related cases and resolved more than 1,700 disputes using Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms. The command has also foiled several criminal plots and secured vital infrastructure like pipelines, railway corridors, and power installations throughout the state. Ekundayo highlighted that the command’s successes result from intelligence-driven operations that have prevented numerous criminal activities, including protecting pipelines, railway corridors, and power installations. She emphasized the NSCDC's statutory mandate to protect critical national assets and infrastructure, prevent vandalism and economic sabotage, and support disaster management and emergency response.
The resulting over 1,700 disputes resolved through the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism underscores the NSCDC's operational reach beyond law enforcement into community justice. The command also recovered over ₦23 million for fraud victims, demonstrating its commitment to financial restitution. While outlining these achievements, Ekundayo stressed that security remains a shared responsibility and called for stronger collaboration with the media to enhance safety and public awareness statewide. She noted that journalists play a critical role in shaping public perception, influencing attitudes, and serving as a bridge between government institutions and the people. The visit aimed to strengthen cooperation, with the commandant calling for stronger collaboration with the media to enhance security and public awareness across the state. The NUJ chairman, Wale Olanrewaju, assured the commandant of continued media support through accurate and timely reporting of security issues.
Ekundayo also underscored the NSCDC’s role in protecting critical national assets, preventing vandalism, and combating economic sabotage. She called for stronger collaboration with the media to enhance security and public awareness, describing journalists as “critical partners” in the state’s security architecture. The move to engage the media signals efforts to secure public support for their evolving enforcement role in the region.
