The Delta State Police Command has rescued a two‑year‑old child suspected to have been abducted and later reunited the toddler with her parents, following a swift operation by the Quick Response Squad (QRS) at Igbudu Market in Warri. The suspect, a 29‑year‑old man identified as Fejiro Obaduemu, was intercepted by vigilant residents while allegedly carrying the child concealed inside a sack bag, an act that immediately raised suspicion of child stealing. According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, the incident occurred on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at about 9:15 a.m., when operatives of the QRS successfully rescued the child and also prevented the lynching of the suspect by an angry mob.
The suspect, who resides at Idesor Street, Isi Layout, Warri, was reportedly spotted by residents moving suspiciously with the sack bag. Before the mob could attack him, QRS operatives swiftly intervened, rescuing both the suspect and the child and evacuating them to safety. The suspect sustained injuries from the mob attack and was taken to the Police Clinic in Warri for medical attention before being taken into custody for further investigation. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly confessed to being sent by an unidentified person to steal the child. Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the said accomplice and unravel the wider network connected to the crime.
Further investigation conducted on Monday, May 11, 2026, led to the successful tracing of the child’s parents, and the toddler was formally reunited with the family in the presence of leaders of the Hausa community in Warri. The Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, assured residents that the command remains committed to protecting children and combating all forms of human trafficking and related crimes. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities involving children to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
