Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have rescued six kidnapped victims, including a three‑month‑old baby, and arrested two suspected terrorist collaborators following a successful air interdiction mission and follow‑up ground operations. The rescue took place at a suspected terrorist crossing point near Amuda on May 12, 2026, according to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.

The troops acted on credible intelligence gathered after an air interdiction mission around the Mandara Mountains, a rugged terrain that has served as a hideout and transit route for Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists. The rescued victims included women and children, among them a three‑month‑old infant who was abducted from Ngoshe community during a terrorist attack on March 3, 2026. The baby was reunited with her family after three months in captivity, a development that has brought relief to the devastated community.

In a separate operation, troops arrested two suspects in Damaturu, Yobe State, in connection with an earlier operation involving the interception of a suspected ammunition courier. The courier had been apprehended while finalising plans to supply ammunition to terrorist groups. The two suspects are believed to be associates of the courier and part of a logistics network that ferries weapons and ammunition to terrorist hideouts across the North East. They are currently in military custody and are being interrogated to uncover the full extent of the supply chain.

The successful rescue and arrests underscore the growing effectiveness of intelligence‑led operations by the military, which has intensified efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and recover abducted civilians. The Nigerian Army has urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to aid ongoing operations. Troops remain on high alert and are conducting follow‑up patrols to prevent any regrouping of terrorist elements in the area.

As of the time of this report, all six rescued victims have been evacuated to a military medical facility for health evaluation and psychosocial support. The two arrested suspects are undergoing further interrogation, and the military has promised to keep the public informed of any additional developments.
