A late-night head-on collision on the Malam Madori–Hadejia Road in Jigawa State has claimed seven lives, leaving the Chairman of Kafin Hausa Local Government Area hospitalised with serious injuries. The crash, which occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Kashin Dila Junction, involved a white Toyota Starlet and a black Mercedes-Benz GLK. According to police sources who spoke to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the Toyota Starlet, driven by Adamu Dakido, was transporting passengers from Hadejia to Malam Madori when it collided head-on with the Mercedes-Benz GLK, which was carrying the chairman of Kafin Hausa LGA and his driver from Gumel to Kafin Hausa. The impact of the crash was so severe that all six occupants of the Toyota Starlet died instantly, while the driver of the GLK was also killed on the spot.
The council chairman, who sustained varying degrees of injuries, was the sole survivor of the wreck. A patrol team of the Nigeria Police Force responded promptly to the scene, evacuating the injured chairman and the bodies of the deceased to the General Hospital in Hadejia. Police authorities have since launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, though no official statement has been issued by the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, as of the time of filing this report. Eyewitnesses described the collision as catastrophic, with debris scattered across the junction and emergency responders working late into the night to extricate bodies from the mangled vehicles.
This tragedy has sent shockwaves through Kafin Hausa Local Government Area, where the injured chairman is a prominent political figure and the six occupants of the Toyota Starlet were residents of nearby communities. It is also the latest in a string of fatal road crashes along this corridor. In December 2024, a devastating crash along the Tage Bridge in the Kafin Hausa area claimed fourteen lives, followed days later by another accident that killed six people. In 2025, the Federal Road Safety Corps recorded 315 accidents in Jigawa State, resulting in at least 170 deaths and over 1,700 injuries. The recurring fatalities on this road have prompted local leaders to renew calls for improved safety measures, including better lighting at Kashin Dila Junction and the installation of speed bumps. However, for the families of Adamu Dakido and the six other victims of Monday night, those calls come too late. They are now left to bury their loved ones while the chairman of Kafin Hausa remains in critical care at the General Hospital in Hadejia, the sole survivor of a crash that turned a quiet junction into a mass casualty scene.
