Pastor Akoh, a Nigerian clergyman who once served as a chief usher, was killed by his abductors just three days after he was taken, reportedly because his family was unable to pay the ransom on time. The tragic incident was made public by Bishop Peter Attayi Yakubu, an Abuja-based cleric, in a Facebook post on Monday, 25 May 2026.
According to Bishop Yakubu, the kidnappers killed Pastor Akoh because they claimed the payment of his ransom had been delayed. The clergyman was abducted and lost his life within a span of only three days, a development the bishop described as both shocking and deeply painful.
In his emotional Facebook tribute, Bishop Yakubu identified the deceased as his former chief usher, a young pastor who had been mentored under him and had recently started his own ministry after receiving what the bishop described as prophetic grace. “My heart is bleeding. Oh my son, pastor Akoh. He was my chief usher. He served well and was impacted with the prophetic grace then God asked him to go start his own ministry and he is doing well,” Bishop Yakubu wrote.
He also revealed that the late pastor had recently invited him for a fatherly visit to his church, a trip that was planned for September. “Kaiii recently he begged for my fatherly visit to his church which I told him I will come in September,” the bishop wrote.
The bishop expressed bewilderment that the kidnappers could kill Pastor Akoh in such a short time, especially as his young wife was still nursing a newborn baby. “How can kidnappers kill pastor Akoh under 3 days with claim that ransom delayed. Oh God, the wife is even breastfeeding a new baby,” he added.
The incident has heightened concerns over the deteriorating security situation in many parts of the country, where kidnapping for ransom has become a recurring nightmare for families and communities. Victims are often held for weeks while families struggle to raise huge sums, but in this case, the pastor was killed just three days after his abduction, even before any substantial negotiation could take place.
As of the time of this report, security agencies had not yet issued an official statement on the case. The exact location of the abduction and the amount of ransom demanded have also not been disclosed. The killing of Pastor Akoh is yet another painful reminder of the human cost of the kidnapping crisis, which continues to claim lives across Nigeria.
