The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of sponsoring certain aspirants seeking political offices on its platform, warning that the party has identified the alleged moles and will ensure they do not secure tickets. The NDC said its leadership has already confronted the affected aspirants and put measures in place to prevent the ruling party from subverting its internal processes. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Thursday, 28 May 2026, the NDC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Osa Director, said the party was determined to prevent infiltration by political opportunists and agents allegedly planted by the APC ahead of the primaries scheduled for Friday, 29 May.
Director noted that the NDC operates with the understanding that it is “fighting a behemoth” – a reference to the ruling party – and therefore will not disclose all its strategies. He stated that intelligence gathered from various states guided the party’s screening decisions, and that although no aspirant was officially disqualified at the screening stage, some individuals were made aware that they would not receive the ticket because they were moles planted in the party. He explained that the party remains vigilant against attempts to undermine its internal processes and that only aspirants with verifiable political pedigree and demonstrated commitment to the party’s principles and values would be considered for tickets. He further quoted the party’s national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, as warning that the NDC is not a “special-purpose vehicle” for any individual seeking personal advantage. Director emphasised that the party would not follow the “playbook of the Labour Party”, stressing that it had learned lessons from the past and would be selective about entrants, including those he said were joining from the diaspora solely to exploit the party’s rising political profile. While reaffirming that the NDC remains open to new members, he insisted that only committed, credible aspirants with proven political experience would be allowed to contest under its platform.
