The Federal Capital Territory Administration has warned event centre and hotel owners in Abuja against allowing their premises to be used by illegal organisations or unrecognised political party leaderships, threatening to revoke the title documents of any property found in violation. The directive, issued in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, on Friday, May 29, 2026, comes as the administration seeks to strengthen security and prevent gatherings capable of disrupting public peace. The statement particularly warned that during the current political season, facility owners must only deal with Independent National Electoral Commission‑recognised leadership of political parties and keep proper records of all transactions, with failure to comply resulting in revocation of title documents.
The directive is the latest move by Minister Nyesom Wike in his capacity as FCT chief to target the rival faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by former Minister of Special Duties Tanimu Turaki, which he has repeatedly declared illegal and in defiance of court orders. The Wike‑backed faction, which INEC officially recognised after its national convention in March 2026, has insisted that Abdulrahman Mohammed is the PDP’s National Chairman and that the Turaki‑led Interim National Working Committee “does not exist”. Wike has previously vowed to seal any property in Abuja used by the Turaki faction for party activities, accusing its leaders of “fraud and 419” and daring them to open a party bank account or a secretariat.
The Turaki faction, however, has rejected the legality of the Wike‑backed NWC, arguing that a Supreme Court judgment has created a leadership vacuum and insisting that their activities align with the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act, 2026. The faction has also dismissed Wike’s threats, with its spokesperson Ibrahim Abdullahi daring the minister to “come shut down our office if you can”. Meanwhile, the Turaki‑led group has continued with its own party activities, including screening aspirants in Bauchi State and attempting to ratify former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate, even though Jonathan has not publicly declared interest. Wike, however, has remained defiant, arguing that “you cannot disobey court judgments and then turn around to deceive Nigerians that you have a legitimate structure,” and has maintained that any attempt by the Turaki group to establish offices in the FCT will be met with decisive action.
The FCTA’s latest warning, therefore, serves not only as a general security measure but also as a direct weapon in an ongoing political war, barring property owners from renting to any group that cannot present INEC‑recognised credentials – effectively putting the Turaki‑led PDP on notice that they will find no venue in the nation’s capital.
