A Nigerian cleric, Pastor John Andreaz, has argued that the security crisis gripping the nation is orchestrated by a hidden structure so deeply entrenched that it surpasses the capacity of any single administration to dismantle, calling instead for urgent international intervention to prevent a catastrophic national collapse. Speaking on the state of the nation, the clergyman asserted that while President Bola Tinubu, as Commander-in-Chief, has a role to play, the problem is much larger than one government and would likely overwhelm any future administration.
Pastor Andreaz claimed that "the structure that is controlling the insecurity in this nation is beyond Tinubu", adding that even a future government may struggle to address the challenge effectively. He called for international support, insisting that the network behind the violence is "too strong." Drawing a grim parallel to a military minefield, the cleric warned that "Nigeria has been mined", and cautioned that drastic actions taken without caution could trigger widespread casualties. He claimed that certain decisions could cause the nation to "explode" and result in deaths "more than the civil war." To avert this catastrophe, Pastor Andreaz advocated for foreign assistance in tackling the crisis and expressed appreciation for the presence of the United States in Nigeria, stating his hope that the US would fulfil what he described as its commitment to help address security concerns.
The cleric further alleged that the insecurity challenge is tied to what he called a long-term agenda to "take over the whole nation and Islamize Nigeria." He clarified that this did not necessarily mean forcing all Nigerians to become Muslims, but rather placing governance and national structures under Islamic law. He maintained that while crimes such as kidnapping and banditry occur in other countries, Nigeria’s situation should be viewed differently, alleging that such activities are being used as a cover for a broader ideological agenda. He concluded his remarks by stating that he believes God frequently reveals information about Nigeria’s future to him as a prophet.
Pastor Andreaz’s comments come at a time of mounting tension across Nigeria, with security forces stretched thin and public anxiety rising. Just hours before his statement, the military announced that troops had successfully repelled an attempted Boko Haram attack on a base in Gajigana, Borno State, while the police in Oyo and Plateau States confirmed the rescue of 49 kidnapped victims over the preceding week. The Federal Government, however, maintains that the security situation remains under control, even as opposition figures continue to call for a state of emergency on security and the establishment of a national framework for the protection of civilians.
While the cleric’s specific allegations of an overarching plot could not be independently verified, his warning of a "mined" nation reflects a palpable sense of vulnerability shared by many citizens in regions plagued by banditry and terrorism. For the millions of Nigerians living in fear, the debate over the nature of the threat—whether a sinister hidden hand, a complex structural failure, or a combination of both—has become academic. The immediate question remains who will act to secure the country before the predicted explosion occurs.
