A truck carrying building materials from Onitsha in Anambra State to Taraba State has been intercepted by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Nukkai Timber Shade in Jalingo, leading to the recovery of 320,840 capsules of tramadol, 600 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 4,500 pills of rohypnol, and 299 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup. The agency said the intelligence‑led operation, which took place on Saturday, 6 June 2026, resulted in the arrest of a 22‑year‑old suspect, Buhari Abdullahi.
In a statement issued on Sunday, 7 June, NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, detailed the nationwide operations, which also targeted community‑level drug distributors. In Ebonyi State, operatives arrested a 75‑year‑old grandpa, Okebe Samuel, at Okposi. The septuagenarian was found with 300 grams of skunk packaged in retail sachets and allegedly sold to youths in his community. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), said the agency remains “fully committed to dismantling drug supply chains” and will target traffickers “regardless of age, gender, or concealment methods”.
The crackdown extended to several other states. In Imo State, a female suspect, Chioma Okeke (32), was arrested following a raid on a drug enclave at Umulolo in Orlu, with eight kilograms of skunk recovered. In Edo State, a sweep of drug hotspots in Benin City on 2 June led to the arrest of four traffickers, including three women. Chioma Igba (24) and Precious Ozomah (22) were picked up at Uyosa with 176 grams of skunk, 65 grams of Loud, and five grams of methamphetamine. Anita Abraham (21) was arrested along Agbor Road with 95 grams of Scottish Loud and 329 grams of regular Loud, while Henry Okey (43) was apprehended at Upper Mission with an assortment of psychotropic substances.
In Kano State, a 19‑year‑old suspect, Saifullahi Lawan, was arrested on 4 June at the Kafi area of Madobi with 40 blocks of skunk weighing a total of 38 kilograms. In Gombe State, operatives intercepted Ugwu Sabastine Ifebuchi (28) near Dantiti Plaza in the Tumfure area with 15,000 capsules of tramadol. The agency also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaign, reaching schools in Oyo, Lagos, Anambra, and Kano states.
Brig. Gen. Marwa commended the officers of the Taraba, Ebonyi, Imo, Edo, Kano, and Gombe commands for their resilience and reiterated that the ongoing nationwide crackdown would be sustained to dismantle both major drug supply routes and local distribution networks. All suspects are in custody and will be prosecuted in accordance with the law, the agency said.
