The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Niger/Kogi Area Command, has strengthened its collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Kogi State Command as part of ongoing efforts to enhance security, improve intelligence sharing, and promote a safer environment for residents and businesses across the state.
The renewed commitment was highlighted on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, during an engagement between the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Muhammad Sani Umar, mni, and the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, psc, mni, at the Police Headquarters in Lokoja. The visit, described as cordial and symbolic of the strong working relationship between both agencies, underscored ongoing efforts to deepen synergy in tackling security challenges and supporting national development.
A statement signed by the Command Public Relations Officer of the Niger/Kogi Area Command, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I (ASC I) Abubakar Abdulkareem Zakariya, said the visit highlighted the strong and cordial relationship existing between the two security agencies in the state. Speaking during the engagement, Comptroller Umar expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to him and his entourage and explained that the visit was aimed at further consolidating the long-standing partnership between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Police Force.
According to him, effective inter-agency collaboration remains vital in addressing security challenges and promoting sustainable national development. He stressed the importance of maintaining synergy, mutual understanding, and cooperation among security agencies to achieve common goals. "Security is a collective responsibility. When agencies work together and share information effectively, we are better positioned to protect our communities and safeguard the nation's interests," Umar said.
The Comptroller also reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to sustaining productive partnerships with the Police and other security agencies operating in Kogi State.
In his response, Commissioner of Police Naziru Bello Kankarofi welcomed the Comptroller and described the visit as timely and significant. He noted that security agencies in Kogi State operate as one family, united in their resolve to safeguard lives and property. "In Kogi State, security agencies operate as one family. Our shared commitment and collaboration remain essential to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of our people," Kankarofi stated.
CP Kankarofi commended officers and personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service in the state for their professionalism and unwavering support to the Police in maintaining security. He also appreciated the Comptroller for the visit and offered prayers for peace, progress, and stability in the country.
The visit concluded on a note of renewed commitment by both agencies to deepen collaboration, enhance intelligence sharing, and strengthen joint efforts aimed at ensuring a safer and more secure Kogi State.
Kogi State, which shares borders with nine states and the Federal Capital Territory, has strategic importance in Nigeria's security architecture. The collaboration between the Customs and Police is expected to bolster efforts to combat smuggling, arms trafficking, and other cross-border crimes that have historically exploited the state's location. The renewed partnership reflects a broader trend of inter-agency cooperation aimed at addressing emerging security threats and supporting national development objectives.
The memo was released by the Nigeria Customs Service on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
