Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), have neutralised two suspected bandits, arrested four others and recovered rustled livestock during a series of coordinated security operations across Kaduna State, in what military authorities described as part of ongoing efforts to combat banditry and criminal activities in the North-West region.

The operations were conducted between June 18 and June 21, 2026, across several communities in Kaduna State by troops of Sector 1, Operation Fansan Yamma. According to military sources, the coordinated missions targeted suspected criminal hideouts and movement routes used by bandits operating in parts of the state. The operations resulted in the killing of two suspected bandits, the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of rustled livestock believed to have been stolen from local communities.

Security officials said the operations formed part of a broader campaign aimed at disrupting criminal networks responsible for attacks, cattle rustling, kidnappings and other violent crimes in the region.

The military noted that troops acted on intelligence reports that led them to identified locations where criminal elements were believed to be operating.

During one of the operations, troops reportedly engaged suspected bandits in a gun battle, resulting in the neutralisation of two suspects.

Military authorities said the troops maintained pressure on the fleeing criminals, forcing them to abandon some of their activities and retreat from the area.

The operation also led to the arrest of four individuals suspected of having links to criminal groups operating within the state.

The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation by security agencies.

Authorities said information obtained from the suspects could assist in ongoing efforts to identify and dismantle wider criminal networks.

In addition to the arrests, troops recovered a number of rustled livestock during the operations.

The recovered animals are expected to be identified and returned to their rightful owners following necessary verification procedures.

Cattle rustling has remained one of the major security challenges affecting rural communities across parts of Kaduna State and neighbouring states.

Security agencies have repeatedly linked cattle theft to organised criminal groups involved in banditry and kidnapping activities.

Military officials said the latest recovery was aimed at reducing the economic losses suffered by affected communities.

Residents in some of the operational areas have continued to call for increased security presence to protect lives and property.

The North-West region has witnessed persistent security challenges over the past several years, including attacks on villages, abductions and livestock theft.

Operation Fansan Yamma was established as part of efforts by the Nigerian military to address insecurity and restore stability across affected states.

The operation brings together personnel from different security services to conduct coordinated missions against criminal groups.

Military authorities have consistently maintained that intelligence-driven operations remain central to their strategy.

According to security officials, recent successes recorded by troops demonstrate the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to target criminal hideouts and disrupt their activities.

The authorities also stressed the importance of community cooperation in the fight against insecurity.

Residents have been encouraged to continue providing credible information that could assist security agencies in identifying criminal elements.

Security experts have noted that intelligence sharing between local communities and security forces often plays a significant role in the success of counter-banditry operations.

The military said it remains committed to sustaining offensive operations against criminal groups across the region.

Officials added that troops would continue conducting patrols, raids and surveillance activities aimed at preventing further attacks.

The latest operation comes amid renewed efforts by security agencies to improve safety across communities affected by insecurity.

Authorities believe that sustained pressure on criminal groups can help reduce their operational capacity and limit their freedom of movement.

Local leaders have also continued to advocate stronger collaboration between communities and security agencies.

Observers say the recovery of stolen livestock provides some relief to affected farmers and herders whose livelihoods depend heavily on their animals.

For many rural households, cattle and other livestock represent a major source of income and economic security.

Military authorities reiterated that all arrested suspects would be treated in accordance with the law and subjected to due process.

Investigations are expected to continue as security agencies seek to establish the extent of the suspects’ involvement in criminal activities.

The Nigerian military has pledged to maintain momentum in ongoing operations across Kaduna State and other parts of the North-West.

Officials said the objective remains the restoration of peace, protection of communities and elimination of criminal networks threatening public safety.

The successful operations, authorities said, reflect the continued determination of troops under Operation Fansan Yamma to deny criminal elements safe havens and strengthen security across the region.
