The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six suspected cultists and recovered weapons, charms, and other cult paraphernalia during a coordinated intelligence‑led raid in the Akoko area of the state, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

The suspects, arrested by operatives of the Special Anti‑Cultism Squad, were identified as Damilare Kayode, 30; Adejoro Godwin, 30; Adedapo Ogunro, 36; Chisom Okechukwu, 21; Ademulegun Imisi, 26; and Odugunle Bukola, 21. The operation, carried out in the early hours of June 16 in the Akungba and Iwaro Akoko communities, followed credible intelligence regarding the presence and activities of suspected cult members operating within the area.

According to the police, a search of the suspects and their hideouts led to the recovery of five battle axes, a jackknife, several charms, and items suspected to be cult paraphernalia. Other exhibits recovered included boots, yellow singlets, and face caps believed to be used by members of the suspected cult groups. DSP Jimoh stated that the recovered items have been taken into custody and will serve as exhibits as investigations continue.

Preliminary investigations linked the suspects to unlawful confraternities operating within the Akoko axis of the state. The police command said the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations. The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives for their professionalism and dedication, and reiterated the command’s commitment to combating cultism and other criminal activities. He assured residents that the police would continue to intensify intelligence‑led operations, strategic raids, and visibility policing to prevent criminal elements from establishing footholds in any part of the state. CP Ohagwu also urged members of the public to support security agencies with credible and timely information to aid efforts aimed at maintaining peace and public safety.
