The Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested three suspects in connection with the killing of businesswoman Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, following an intensive investigation that combined forensic analysis, intelligence gathering and technical tracking. Police said the operation led to the recovery of the deceased's stolen vehicle, the identification of the suspects through forensic examination of a handwritten note left at the crime scene and confessional statements by the principal suspect.

The update was provided by Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni during a media briefing in Abeokuta, Ogun State, following developments in an investigation that began on June 21, 2026. According to the police commissioner, officers received a report at about 4:00 p.m. on that day concerning suspicious circumstances at the residence of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku, where both she and her 38-year-old security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, were later found dead. The police identified the arrested suspects as Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip (22), Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola (27) and Sobu Obafunsho (36).

Ojajuni described the investigation as one of the Command's most significant recent breakthroughs, saying detectives combined conventional policing methods with modern forensic science and technical intelligence to identify and apprehend everyone believed to have participated in the crime. He said the operation demonstrated the Command's determination to ensure that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice regardless of the complexity of the investigation.

According to the Commissioner of Police, officers from the Owode-Egba Police Station responded immediately after receiving information suggesting that something was wrong at the residence. Preliminary reports indicated that the front entrance to the house had been partially damaged, while the security post within the compound was locked, prompting officers to force entry into the premises.

Upon entering the compound, detectives discovered the lifeless body of Pelumi Adetayo inside the security house. Officers then proceeded into the main building, where they found Madam Olakitan Oyesiku lying in a pool of blood in the living room. The discovery immediately transformed what had initially been treated as a suspicious incident into a double homicide investigation.

Police officers secured the premises and commenced a detailed forensic examination of the crime scene. Investigators documented physical evidence, photographed the scene and collected materials considered relevant to identifying those responsible for the killings. Officials said preserving the integrity of the crime scene was essential to the success of the investigation.

During the preliminary assessment, detectives also established that a Lexus RX 330 belonging to Madam Oyesiku was missing from the compound. The disappearance of the vehicle strengthened investigators' suspicion that robbery may have been connected to the killings, although police continued to examine every possible motive as the investigation progressed.

The Command subsequently launched a comprehensive investigation involving intelligence gathering, surveillance operations and technical tracking. Police said specialised investigative teams worked simultaneously on tracing the stolen vehicle, analysing evidence recovered at the crime scene and identifying individuals who may have had access to the victims before the murders.

One of the earliest breakthroughs came on June 22, 2026, when technical tracking led operatives to the missing Lexus RX 330. Although those responsible had removed the vehicle's ignition key and detached its registration number plates in what investigators believe was an attempt to conceal its identity, detectives discovered the original registration plate hidden beneath one of the seats.

According to Commissioner Ojajuni, the recovery of the concealed registration plate enabled investigators to positively confirm that the vehicle belonged to Madam Oyesiku. Police described the discovery as an important development because it established a direct connection between the recovered vehicle and the crime scene despite attempts to disguise its identity.

Another significant breakthrough emerged from a handwritten note allegedly left behind at the scene by the perpetrators. Rather than treating the note as an ordinary exhibit, detectives subjected it to forensic examination, including handwriting analysis and other scientific procedures aimed at extracting investigative leads.

Police said the forensic analysis generated valuable intelligence that significantly narrowed the scope of the investigation. Although authorities have not publicly disclosed the specific forensic methods employed or the contents of the handwritten note, officials confirmed that the examination contributed directly to identifying the principal suspect.

Investigators subsequently focused their attention on Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, who was eventually traced to a construction site in Ibara Government Reserved Area (GRA), Abeokuta. On June 24, 2026, detectives arrested the 22-year-old while he was reportedly working as a labourer.

Following his arrest, police carried out additional intelligence-led operations that resulted in the apprehension of two more suspects. The Command identified them as Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, a 27-year-old security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, a 36-year-old bricklayer. Their arrests, according to police, completed the operation against those believed to have participated directly in the alleged criminal conspiracy.

Commissioner Ojajuni said the arrest of all three suspects represented the culmination of several days of coordinated investigative work involving detectives, intelligence officers and forensic specialists. He praised members of the investigative team for maintaining professionalism throughout the operation despite the complexity of the case.

During interrogation, police said the principal suspect made a confessional statement admitting his involvement in the killing of Madam Oyesiku. According to the Commissioner, Philip also confessed that he recruited the two other suspects to participate in carrying out the attack.

Police further alleged that the principal suspect told investigators the intention behind the attack was to "teach her a lesson." Authorities have not publicly disclosed additional details regarding the circumstances that allegedly motivated the crime, indicating that further investigation remains ongoing to establish the full sequence of events and possible motives.

The Commissioner emphasised that confessional statements form only one aspect of the investigation and that detectives continue to gather corroborating evidence to strengthen the case before prosecution. Nigerian criminal procedure requires prosecutors to present evidence supporting charges beyond confessions alone, particularly in serious offences such as murder.

Investigators are also continuing to analyse additional exhibits recovered during the investigation while working to establish the exact roles allegedly played by each suspect. Police said this process will assist prosecutors in presenting a comprehensive case before the courts.

The Ogun State Police Command assured members of the public that every lawful investigative procedure would be followed to ensure justice for the victims and their families. Officials also appealed for patience while detectives complete the remaining aspects of the investigation.

The Commissioner used the briefing to encourage residents to continue providing credible information capable of assisting law enforcement agencies in preventing violent crimes. He noted that timely intelligence from members of the public remains one of the most effective tools in combating criminal activities across the state.

He also reaffirmed the Command's commitment to integrating forensic science, intelligence gathering and modern investigative technology into criminal investigations. According to him, the successful recovery of the stolen vehicle and the identification of suspects through forensic evidence demonstrate the increasing importance of scientific methods in contemporary policing.

Police said all three suspects remain in custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation. The Command reiterated that it remains committed to ensuring that everyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with Nigerian law while respecting the legal rights of all suspects throughout the judicial process.

The investigation continues as detectives seek to determine whether any additional individuals may have assisted in planning or facilitating the crime. For now, the arrest of the three suspects marks a significant development in a case that shocked residents of Ogun State and drew widespread public attention because of its violent nature and the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard.
