Operatives of the Imo State Police Command, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, have rescued an injured kidnap victim during an intelligence-led forest clearance operation in the Owerri West Local Government Area of the state. The victim, Chinonaobi Uchegbulam, a resident of Ubaha Orodo in Owerri West LGA, was rescued on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from a forest hideout in the Nekede, Ihiagwa, and Agbala axis.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, June 28, 2026, by the command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, the operation was carried out on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, as conveyed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police supervising the South-East Geopolitical Zone, DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie. The rescue mission was led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, who supervised the operation alongside police operatives and local vigilantes.

The joint operation was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen internal security, dismantle criminal hideouts, and deny criminal elements safe havens across Imo State. The police also deployed surveillance drones to enhance intelligence gathering and support the identification and tracking of criminal elements operating in the area.

During the operation, security operatives successfully rescued Uchegbulam from one of the forest camps. The victim, who was found injured, was immediately evacuated to a medical facility where he is currently receiving treatment and responding positively.

CP Bosso commended the operatives for their courage, commitment, and professionalism during the operation. He reaffirmed the command's resolve to sustain intelligence-led operations and ensure that Imo State remains hostile to criminal elements. “The command remains committed to making Imo unsafe for kidnappers and other violent criminal groups,” Okoye said.

The police spokesperson urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies. He advised the public to contact the nearest police station or the command's emergency line at 0803 477 3600. Okoye called for continued cooperation through credible information to support efforts against kidnapping and violent crimes.
