The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested four suspected burglars during an intelligence-led raid on a criminal hideout in the Omisanjana area of Ado-Ekiti, recovering a large quantity of items suspected to have been stolen from various shops across the state capital. The operation, carried out in the early hours of Sunday, 5 July 2026, was conducted by operatives of the Ado Central Division following credible intelligence that linked the location to a series of burglaries and stealing incidents in the area.
The suspects were identified as Abdurazak Suleiman, 39; John Okori, 27; Francis Okori, 32; and Kehinde Alabi, 30, all residents of Omisanjana, Ado-Ekiti. According to a statement issued on Monday, 6 July 2026, by the Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, a search of the premises led to the discovery of numerous items believed to be proceeds of crime.
Among the recovered items were assorted perfumes, bathing soaps, alcoholic beverages, food items, body care products, cotton materials, clothing, a school bag, a 3kg gas cylinder, and a sledgehammer suspected to have been used for shop-breaking operations. The recovery of the sledgehammer, in particular, pointed to the violent and destructive nature of the suspects' alleged activities, as they reportedly used it to force their way into shops.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the four suspects lived together in the same apartment, suggesting they may have been operating as a coordinated burglary syndicate. Further intelligence gathered at the scene linked them to a recent burglary of a shop located at Ekute Quarters, Ado-Ekiti, near the Water Works construction site, where some of the suspects were reportedly engaged as labourers. The police said efforts were ongoing to trace the owner of the burgled shop and other possible victims for the identification and recovery of their properties.
SP Abutu said a comprehensive investigation has commenced to establish the full extent of the suspects' involvement in burglary and other criminal activities. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, reaffirmed the command's commitment to sustaining intelligence-led policing aimed at protecting lives and property across the state. He also encouraged residents to continue providing timely and credible information, assuring them that all information received would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
The raid in Omisanjana is part of the command's ongoing efforts to curb crime in Ado-Ekiti and its environs. The police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station. The suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
