Miss World Nigeria 2026, Tamunosoye Karibi-George, has paid a courtesy visit to the Vietnamese Ambassador to Nigeria, Bui Quoc Hung, at the embassy in Abuja, as part of preparations for the 73rd Miss World pageant, which will be hosted in Vietnam later this year. The meeting, which took place on Thursday, 9 July 2026, focused on strengthening cultural ties and ensuring a successful participation for the Nigerian queen at the global event.

The 26-year-old beauty queen, who hails from Bayelsa State, was crowned Miss World Nigeria 2026 on June 6 at the Balmoral Hall of the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos. She is a communications professional and edged out 20 other finalists to clinch the highly coveted title. During the visit, Tamunosoye presented the ambassador with a Special Appreciation Award in recognition of his outstanding diplomatic service and efforts in strengthening the relationship between Nigeria and Vietnam.

Discussions at the meeting centred on practical preparations for the international pageant, including visa arrangements for her team, introductions to members of the Nigerian community in Vietnam, and guidance to ensure a smooth and memorable stay during the competition. The pair also explored opportunities to promote cultural exchange and business collaboration between Nigeria and Vietnam, highlighting the shared values and cultural similarities between both countries. Ambassador Bui Quoc Hung, who has been instrumental in driving bilateral trade between the two nations to over $1 billion annually, congratulated Tamunosoye on her victory and wished her success at the pageant. He encouraged her to explore Vietnam's rich culture, traditions, and tourist attractions during her visit.

The 73rd Miss World pageant, a special edition celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Miss World organisation, will be held in Vietnam for the first time. The final is scheduled to take place on September 5 in Nha Trang, with over 120 contestants from around the world expected to participate. The competition is part of a month-long festival that will begin on August 9 in Hanoi, showcasing the country's culture and hospitality.

Tamunosoye Karibi-George succeeds Joy Raimi, who represented Nigeria at the 72nd Miss World pageant in Hyderabad, India, where she reached the Top 20 and placed among the Top 5 from Africa. With the support of the Vietnamese embassy and the Nigerian community, the reigning queen is poised to make a strong impression on the global stage, carrying the hopes of a nation eager to reclaim the Miss World crown.
