Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping, neutralising two suspected kidnappers and recovering an AK-47 rifle and other exhibits after rescuing a traditional prince who was abducted from his residence on 30 June 2026. The victim, Prince Idris Adesulu of Okun Owa in Ijebu Ode, was whisked away from his compound gate by gunmen armed with sophisticated firearms. According to a press release issued on 9 July 2026 by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Commissioner of Police immediately activated the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams to secure the prince's release.

Through sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated tactical pressure, the kidnappers were forced to release Prince Idris unharmed on 3 July 2026. Following the victim's release, operatives intensified efforts to track down the perpetrators. Acting on credible intelligence, the police team stormed the Agoro/Imodi axis, a notorious corridor that has witnessed repeated abductions in recent months. On sighting the police, the kidnappers opened fire, engaging the operatives in a fierce gun duel. The police responded decisively, neutralising two of the kidnappers while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

A search conducted on the neutralised suspects led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to have been used for ransom delivery, and other incriminating exhibits. The corpses of the neutralised kidnappers have been deposited at a government morgue for autopsy. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover additional exhibits. This operation follows a pattern of successful anti-kidnapping efforts by the Ogun State Police Command, including a previous operation on 27 June 2026 that neutralised four kidnappers and rescued five victims.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the courage, professionalism, and operational efficiency of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams involved in the operation. He reaffirmed the Command's unwavering commitment to identifying, tracking, and dismantling criminal networks operating within the state. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support the police by providing timely and credible information. The police have encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities through the Gateway Shield toll-free line (0800 000 9111) or emergency numbers 09164859299 and 09154293464.
