A tragic road accident in the early hours of Thursday, 9 July 2026, claimed the lives of two persons at Ogbere Junction along the Ogbere–J4 corridor of the Sagamu-Ore Expressway in Ogun State. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, confirmed that the crash occurred at approximately 5:10 a.m. and involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC660XC and an orange Peugeot J5 commercial bus whose registration number was not visible.
According to the FRSC, four adult male occupants were involved in the accident. Two of them died on the spot, while the remaining two escaped unhurt. The Sector Command's Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Odunsi, attributed the crash to route violation and excessive speeding, noting that the impact of the collision caused the Peugeot J5 bus to catch fire, leaving its front section completely burnt.
The FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the distress call and immediately commenced traffic management operations. The affected lane was diverted to an alternative carriageway to ease congestion while efforts continued to remove the wreckage and restore the free flow of traffic. The remains of the deceased victims were evacuated by officers of the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Ogbere Division, and deposited at a mortuary.
Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and urged motorists to strictly obey traffic regulations. He warned against speeding and route violations, particularly during periods of poor visibility and on wet road surfaces, stressing that such dangerous driving behaviours remain major causes of fatal crashes on Nigerian roads. The FRSC reiterated its commitment to ensuring safer roads through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment campaigns, and prompt emergency response. Motorists were also advised to drive responsibly, maintain safe speeds, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey.
