The Federal Ministry of Education has inaugurated and inducted its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) Committee, reaffirming the Federal Government's commitment to transparency, accountability and ethical governance under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The inauguration, which took place on Thursday, 9 July 2026, at the Ministry's headquarters in Abuja, marks a significant step towards institutionalising anti-corruption mechanisms within the education sector.
Inaugurating the Committee, the Permanent Secretary, Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, described ACTU as a vital mechanism for promoting due process, ethical conduct and compliance with public service regulations across the Ministry and its agencies. He stressed that the Ministry must uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in delivering quality education, noting that the unit would play a critical role in ensuring that public resources are managed transparently and that the delivery of educational services is not compromised by corruption or unethical practices.
Representing the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mr Olusegun Adigun said the reconstituted ACTU would strengthen anti-corruption sensitisation, ethics promotion, corruption risk assessments, budget monitoring and compliance with public service rules. He noted that the unit would serve as a frontline mechanism for identifying and addressing vulnerabilities within the Ministry's operations, thereby reinforcing the integrity of the education sector.
The Director of Special Duties, Mr Murtala Tanko, described the inauguration as a demonstration of the Ministry's commitment to institutional integrity, while the ACTU Chairman, Mr Malik Guni Kuje, pledged transparent and accountable leadership. Kuje assured that the Committee would discharge its responsibilities with diligence and impartiality, working to ensure that the Ministry's operations remain compliant with extant laws and regulations.
The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to institutional excellence, ethical governance and the transparent management of public resources to advance quality education for all Nigerians. The establishment of the ACTU is part of broader efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen governance frameworks across all sectors, in line with the provisions of the Public Service Rules and the ICPC Act.
The Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit is a specialised committee established within Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to promote integrity, transparency and accountability in public service. The unit is responsible for conducting corruption risk assessments, monitoring budget implementation, reviewing procurement processes, ensuring compliance with public service rules, and promoting ethical conduct among staff. By inaugurating the ACTU, the Federal Ministry of Education has demonstrated its resolve to uphold the highest standards of governance and to ensure that the nation's educational resources are deployed efficiently and effectively for the benefit of all Nigerians.
