In a coordinated series of intelligence-led operations spanning Enugu, Delta, Gombe, Kano, Ogun, and the Federal Capital Territory, the Nigeria Police Force has arrested 11 suspects and recovered a significant cache of illicit drugs, firearms, and ammunition, demonstrating the command's commitment to tackling violent crime, drug trafficking, and public disorder across the country. The operations, conducted between August 15 and 16, 2026, were announced by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, in a statement on Monday, August 17, 2026.
The most extensive operation took place in Enugu State on August 16, when police operatives raided a suspected criminal black spot in the Ogui area of the state capital. Three male suspects were arrested, and a haul of illicit substances and paraphernalia was recovered, including 158 sachets of suspected cannabis, 136 sachets of suspected "Colos," 136 sachets of suspected crystal methamphetamine, three small cups of suspected cannabis, an electronic pocket scale, scissors, a wristwatch, and ₦22,400 in cash. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Enugu for further investigation.
In Delta State, two separate operations yielded significant recoveries. On August 15, operatives on routine visibility patrol along GRA, Ughelli, intercepted a motorcycle carrying suspicious persons. The occupants fled into the bush, abandoning a crossbody bag containing one locally made cut-to-size firearm, three mobile phones, a National Identity Card, two ATM cards, a lighter, and a jeans jacket. The case is being investigated by SCID Asaba. In a separate operation in Agbarho, police operatives raided the residence of a suspect linked to a murder case and recovered one locally made single-barrel gun suspected to have been used in the shooting. That case is also being investigated by SCID Asaba.
In Gombe State, operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested a suspect at BCJ Quarters in Gombe on August 15, recovering one locally fabricated rifle from his possession. In Ogun State, police operatives responded to information on August 16 concerning a person found in possession of live rifle ammunition. The suspect was arrested and disclosed the source of the ammunition, leading to the arrest of another suspect. The live rifle ammunition was recovered and the case transferred to SCID Abeokuta.
In Kano State, police operatives responded swiftly to a shooting incident at a wedding event in Tudun Yola Bajallabe on August 16. The suspect was arrested at the scene and the firearm used in the incident was recovered. The case is being investigated by SCID Kano. In the Federal Capital Territory, police operatives responded to a reported fatal incident at Rockville Estate, Dawaki, on August 15, leading to the arrest of three suspects in connection with the incident. The case has been transferred to SCID Abuja.
The coordinated operations highlight the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to intelligence-led policing and its determination to rid communities of crime. The recoveries of illicit drugs, firearms, and ammunition represent a significant blow to criminal networks operating across the country. The police have urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to combat crime and ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians. The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
