Former Bayelsa State Governor and serving Senator, Seriake Dickson, has made a decisive move to consolidate his political influence ahead of the 2027 general elections, announcing the appointment of three experienced professionals to his personal staff. The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) approved the appointments on Monday, August 17, 2026, bringing on board a seasoned lawyer and politician, a media executive, and a veteran journalist to strengthen his political operations and strategic communication.
The appointments, which take immediate effect, were disclosed in a statement by the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director. According to the statement, the new appointees are Sani Takori as Political Adviser, VinMartin Obiora Ilo as Chief Technical Adviser, and veteran journalist Steve Nwosu as Spokesman. The statement said the three appointees were selected based on their experience, professional records, and track records in their respective fields.
Sani Takori, 68, brings a wealth of legal and political experience to his new role as Political Adviser. A lawyer and former federal lawmaker, Takori began his career in the old Sokoto State, where he served as Registrar and Magistrate before rising to become Solicitor-General and later Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Zamfara State. Takori has also served as a Local Government Chairman, National Legal Adviser to the Council of Ulamas, Chief Legal Officer of the Nigerian Electoral Commission, and secretary of the Yarima presidential campaigns in 2003 and 2007. He is a founding member of the NDC and served as its Protem National Secretary when the party was registered.
VinMartin Obiora Ilo, appointed as Chief Technical Adviser, is a media executive, broadcast journalist, and development expert with nearly four decades of experience across broadcasting, public service, strategic communications, and development consultancy. An alumnus of the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Ilo began his career with Radio Nigeria, rising to become a Network Newscaster before joining Africa Independent Television (AIT), where he retired in 2013 as Director, Special Duties and South-East Operations. He previously served as Special Adviser on Media to the Governor of Enugu State and was a member of the Governing Board of the National Broadcasting Commission. Until his appointment, Ilo was President and Chief Executive Officer of Signature TV.
Steve Nwosu, the new Spokesman, is a journalist, media administrator, consultant, and political communication strategist with over 30 years of experience across print, broadcasting, and online media. He is the writer of the syndicated satirical column, FrankTalk. A graduate of the University of Nigeria and Lagos Business School, Nwosu held senior editorial positions at The Guardian, THISDAY, and The Sun newspapers. He joined The Sun at inception as pioneer Editor of Saturday Sun, later becoming Editor of Daily Sun, Executive Director, Corporate Services, and Deputy Managing Director/Deputy Editor-in-Chief. He subsequently established The Nigerian Xpress Newspaper and currently serves as Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of Edibofa Communication and Publishing Limited. Nwosu served for eight years on the Standing Committee of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, first as a member representing the West Zone and later as Treasurer.
The statement said the brief of the three appointees covers Dickson's activities both as NDC National Leader and as a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Director said the three appointees were selected based on their experience and professional records, describing Ilo and Nwosu as professionals with a track record of professionalism, credibility, and integrity, and Takori as a tested and trusted public administrator with a hugely impressive political resumé.
The appointments come as the NDC and other political parties step up their structures and communication strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections, signalling Dickson's intent to play a significant role in the political realignments taking shape across the country.
