The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has recorded a landslide victory in the Bauchi State local government elections, winning all 20 chairmanship seats and an overwhelming majority of councillorship positions in the polls held on Monday, August 17, 2026. The results, announced by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), have cemented the APM's dominance in the state's political landscape.

The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission declared that APM candidates emerged victorious in all 20 Local Government Areas. The commission also announced that the party secured 319 of the 323 councillorship seats contested across the state. The remaining four councillorship seats were won by the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the National Rescue Movement (NRM), the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and the Young Progressives Party (YPP), each securing one ward.

BASIEC Chairperson, Jummai Abubakar, officially announced the results after the conclusion of voting, counting, collation, and verification. She declared that all 20 APM candidates were duly elected as Chairmen of their respective Local Government Areas. The commission confirmed that the successful candidates had satisfied all applicable legal requirements and secured the highest number of valid votes in their constituencies.

Notable winners among the APM chairmanship candidates included Umar Mohammed Aliyu, who polled the highest number of votes, securing 125,170 votes to win Bauchi Local Government Area. Abubakar Ibrahim Dembo followed closely with 109,999 votes in Toro, while Bappah Aliyu Mohammed won Alkaleri with 107,482 votes. Other winners included Ya'u Samaila Sade in Darazo with 67,276 votes, Yusuf Babayo Zaki in Katagum with 65,626 votes, Ali Babayo in Gamawa with 54,423 votes, Sama'ila Wakili Lere in Tafawa Balewa with 46,625 votes, and Habibu Idris Usman in Warji with 43,066 votes.

In Shira Local Government Area, former Majority Leader of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Saleh Hodi Jibir, won the chairmanship election with 37,135 votes. Other winners included Zakka Luka Magaji in Bogoro, Iliya Isah in Dambam, Mohammed Abubakar Jibo in Dass, and Mohammed Idris M. in Ganjuwa. Mas'ud Aliyu emerged victorious in Zaki with 19,984 votes.

Addressing the opposition, Governor Bala Mohammed, who is also the National Chairman of the APM, described the process as peaceful and transparent. He commended BASIEC for its role in conducting the election and the election officials for ensuring the process was orderly. The governor criticised some political parties for announcing their withdrawal from the election shortly before the exercise, stating that such decisions could undermine citizen participation in the democratic process. He urged all stakeholders and political actors to respect the outcome of the election in the interest of peace and development.

The Bauchi State Government had declared Monday a work-free day to enable civil servants and other public servants to participate fully in the election. Earlier, members of the opposition, under the Coalition of Opposition Parties, had announced their decision to boycott the election, alleging that the exercise was designed to favour the ruling APM. However, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) confirmed that 15 political parties participated in the election, with only six boycotting. IPAC Chairman in Bauchi, Auwal Isa, who is also the state chairman of the APM, praised the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission for following due process in organising the election.

The APM's overwhelming victory in the Bauchi local government elections underscores the party's growing influence and acceptability in the state, setting the stage for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
