African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has renewed his blistering criticism of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, declaring that the governor "has nothing upstairs" and claiming that his visit to the state during the recent governorship election revealed no tangible progress made by the Adeleke administration . Speaking in an interview where he was asked about his repeated criticism of the governor, Sowore insisted that his assessment was based on what he saw on the ground. "I made a statement after I went to Osun State that I didn't see any progress in Osun State made by his uncle," Sowore said, adding that "his uncle, as far as I'm concerned, has nothing upstairs" .

Sowore's comments came just days after Governor Adeleke secured a decisive re-election victory, polling 511,067 votes against the All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes . The governor won in 19 of the state's 30 local government areas, marking a significant political triumph that has been widely interpreted as a rejection of federal might and a testament to the governor's grassroots appeal . But Sowore was unimpressed, dismissing the governor's performance and questioning his intellectual capacity. "That's why I repeat again that the man has nothing upstairs. Maybe the only thing, any brain he has is under his feet. That's why he knows how to dance very well," Sowore said .

The AAC candidate's criticism extended beyond Adeleke to the governor's nephew, Afrobeats superstar Davido, who had responded to Sowore's earlier comments. Sowore described Davido as "brainless" for endorsing President Bola Tinubu's 2027 re-election bid, arguing that the singer had aligned himself with a "criminal establishment" . "Only a brainless person would endorse Tinubu," Sowore declared, recalling his earlier exchange with Davido on social media . The singer had called Sowore a "useless man" and dismissed his criticism of the Adeleke family .

The war of words between Sowore and the Adeleke camp is not new. The AAC candidate has consistently criticised what he describes as political dynasties that benefit from public resources while presenting their wealth and influence as products of individual hard work . He has accused the Adeleke family of benefiting from deals in Nigeria's power sector, alleging that a power-generating plant was sold to the family before one of the plants was shut down . "That's how they are buying jets," he said, while arguing that members of the family had benefited from political positions and public resources . Sowore has also questioned the involvement of members of the Adeleke family in politics and public institutions, arguing that the concentration of political influence among relatives amounted to more than conventional governance .

Sowore's criticism of Adeleke comes amid a broader debate about the governor's performance and the state of governance in Osun. While the governor's supporters point to infrastructure projects, educational reforms, and the establishment of a N500 million Election Violence Victims Endowment Fund as evidence of progress , critics like Sowore argue that the state has not seen meaningful development under Adeleke's watch . The governor himself has pledged to intensify efforts in infrastructure, healthcare, education, workers' welfare and economic development, assuring residents that he remains governor for all, irrespective of political affiliation .

For Sowore, however, the governor's dancing, which has become a defining feature of his public persona, is a distraction from his governance failures. "Maybe the only thing, any brain he has is under his feet. That's why he knows how to dance very well," Sowore said . His remarks have drawn sharp reactions from Adeleke's supporters, who view them as a cheap shot at a governor who has just secured a second term in office. But Sowore remains unrepentant. "I've been proven right," he insisted . As the 2027 elections approach, the war of words between the AAC presidential candidate and the Adeleke camp is unlikely to abate. For now, Sowore has made his position clear: he saw no progress in Osun, and he is not afraid to say so.
